Thu-Van Tran has stated that she gets her inspiration mainly from her complex cultural background: Born in Vietnam and raised in Paris, she unites two cultures that could not be more different. Thus, the story of the migration of her own family, a story of colonization and exploitation, is packed in the poetic, light aesthetic language of the Western world. In her work, Thu-Van Tran uses forms and materials culled from literature, history, architecture, and nature. The shown rubber leafs were collected in all over the world to symbolize the history and beauty of sublime. Works by the young artist were shown, amongst others, at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the 57th Venice Biennale, and at the Neue Berliner Kunstverein. In 2019, Thu Van Tran will take part in a residency program at the Times Museum in Guangzhou, China.
