Mark Manders’ work combines sculpture, installation and drawing, blurring the boundaries of different media. It is underpinned by a profound interest in language and visual poetry; he strives for timelessness and universality by using archetypical forms and familiar materials such as clay, bronze, and wood. There appears to be a separation between the work and the artist, as if it was abandoned. The concept of ‘self-portrait as a building’ is a metaphor for his oeuvre: a fictitious building, divided into separate rooms of which the exact shape and extent cannot be defined. Manders aims for the specific yet unattainable moment in which all works will be connected with one another and enter into dialog. Manders’ work can be found in public collections such as MoMA, New York; LA MOCA, Los Angeles; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. He will inaugurate a public sculpture in New York City’s Central Park in 2019.

市中央公園展出他首個公共空間雕塑。
