In this film, Alice Wang explores the impact of gravity. Dancers hold inverted yoga poses in a shadowy and reflective dance studio; their flushed faces express the physical strain from exertion. The footage has been inverted in postproduction so that the figures appear to be right side up. Meanwhile, tennis balls bounce next to the dancers on the floor, revealing the force of gravity. The work is inspired by the artist’s research into geology, biology, and astronomy, all of which reveal the underlying uncanny forces in nature.
