La Maison de La Celle-Saint-Cloud was an installation built by French artist Jean Pierre Raynaud, a house made entirely following a grid pattern of white tiles and black grout. An image of geometric perfection and uniformity, the work was revealed as an art installation available to the public in 1974. However, Raynaud closed the house to himself in 1988 and had it demolished in 1993, putting the debris into 976 surgical containers. The reasons for the installation’s destruction are unknown. Raynaud’s meticulous overseeing of the work’s demolition may have been a desire to keep the very essence of the work to himself.
