Vaclav Pozarek’s work Eins und Summe (One and Total) from 1994 is a large, freestanding installation consisting of 48 individual sculptures in non-pigmented polyester with similar forms. Pozarek, who was born in the Czech Republic in 1940 and has lived in Bern, Switzerland, for over 50 years, describes one of his artistic methods as ‘a game of finding variations.’ Eins und Summe is illustrative of this ‘game’, following a certain – but variable – choreography. The configuration for Unlimited is an L-shaped corner set as a grid. The identical, geometrically sophisticated objects are set apart at a distance in correspondence with their width and depth. Given their altering positions, the work is not only a procedure of variations but also a game of perception that triggers seemingly endless possibilities in structure and space.
