Ernesto Neto Rio de Janeiro, 1964 Ernesto Neto has been radically exploring and expanding the principles of sculpture since the beginning of his trajectory. Gravity and balance, solidity and opacity, texture, color and light, symbolism and abstraction are all features that anchor his practice. The artist is interested in crochet as a community-based processes of construction. O Espírito dos Olhos Fricabra (2019) is a wall sculpture crafted by hand in an intense and detailed work involving the combination of the textiles' colors, the physical arrangement and the innate tension between the materials. Ernesto Neto lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. Sopro, a major retrospective dedicated to the artist, is currently on view at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo. Recent solo shows include: GaiaMotherTree, presented by Fondation Beyeler (Zurich, 2018); Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma (Helsinki, 2016); TBA21 (Vienna, 2015); Guggenheim Bilbao (Bilbao, 2014). His work is included in several collections such as: Center Georges Pompidou (Paris), Daros Latinamerica (Zurich), Guggenheim (New York), MOCA (Los Angeles), MoMA (New York), Tate Modern (London), and TBA21 (Vienna), among others.
