Galerie Peter Kilchmann
Founded in 1992 in Zurich, Galerie Peter Kilchmann is one of the driving galleries that established the contemporary art scene in Switzerland. In its first decade the gallery initiated the now renowned Loewenbraeu Areal for contemporary art that combines commercial galleries and art museums. The gallery’s efforts in paving the way to a young generation of emerging artists was also reflected in the gallery founder‘s engagement in the creation of young art fair LISTE in Basel in 1996. Throughout the last two decades the gallery has developed a strong program that represents artists from Latin America, Europe and the United States. With its strong focus on the Latin American region, the gallery was among the first European galleries to introduce this continent and its contemporary artistic scene to Switzerland and beyond. Most of the gallery artists have a conceptual approach with socio-political and poetical topics, covering all fields of artistic expression including painting, video, film, photography, installation and sculpture. In 2011 the gallery moved to a larger gallery space in the nearby Maag-Areal and features in its three exhibition spaces up to 10 exhibitions per year. Participation in international art fairs include Art Basel and Art Basel Miami, Frieze London and New York, ARCOmadrid, FIAC, Westbund Shanghai, SP-Arte and ArtBO among others. As a program gallery we operate predominantly in the primary market, working directly with all of our artists. It is a relationship based on trust and loyalty which allows access to significant works of the highest quality that come firsthand from the artists’ studios.
