Derek Eller Gallery opened in September of 1997 with the mission of promoting emerging artists, championing under-recognized established artists and presenting alternative art-historic narratives. The gallery has exhibited at prominent art fairs including Frieze New York, Art Basel Switzerland, and Independent New York. Gallery artists are included in the collections of Tate, London; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Houston; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco; The Armand Hammer Museum of Art, Los Angeles; among others. Gallery exhibitions are reviewed regularly in publications such as, The New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, Modern Painters, Frieze, and The New Yorker. In 2016 after 18 years in Chelsea the gallery has relocated to the lower east side of Manhattan, the center of a thriving cultural community.
