<p>Pacita Abad&rsquo;s monumental trapunto paintings burst with vibrant energy, embodying a fearless interplay of color, texture, and form. With stitched and quilted surfaces adorned with beads, mirrors, and buttons, her works transcend traditional boundaries, transforming painting into an immersive sensory experience. For Encounters 2025, three of Pacita&rsquo;s major works form a centerpiece that celebrates her visionary practice and enduring legacy. The installation, created in collaboration with her nephew, artist Pio Abad, honors the familial and intergenerational knowledge central to her work. Pio, whose own practice explores themes of power and memory, shapes this tribute to amplify her dynamic visual language. Together, they offer a contemporary reflection on Pacita&rsquo;s pioneering spirit and the enduring relevance of her art. Each painting tells a story of transformation: <em>Through the Looking Glass</em>, blends batik and ikat motifs, reflecting her deep engagement with indigenous materials and communities; <em>Fly Into a Rage</em> transforms despair into abstraction, responding to personal and political upheaval; and <em>The Sky is the Limit </em>radiates boundless optimism with intricate embellishments and vivid color. Profoundly global, Abad&rsquo;s practice was informed by her travels across continents and her belief in art as a force for connection. Her works radiate joy, defiance, and solidarity, inviting audiences to explore the complex layers of identity, migration, and creativity that define us all.</p>
