Mendes Wood DM: ‘The cultural system has become a place of resistance’

<p><a href="https://www.artbasel.com/catalog/gallery/1214/Mendes-Wood-DM" target="_blank">Mendes Wood DM</a> opened in 2010 with a clear mission: to foster exchange between Brazil and the rest of the world. Nestled in a tropical garden in São Paulo, the space has since then hosted shows by the likes of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.artbasel.com/catalog/artist/8299/Paulo-Nazareth" target="_blank">Paulo Nazareth</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.artbasel.com/catalog/artist/13852/Sonia-Gomes" target="_blank">Sonia Gomes</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.artbasel.com/catalog/artist/6778/Lawrence-Weiner" target="_blank">Lawrence Weiner</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.artbasel.com/catalog/artist/9525/Nina-Canell" target="_blank">Nina Canell</a>. A decade later, the gallery itself has spread its wings and operates outposts in New York City and Brussels.
