Mendes Wood DM opened in 2010 with a clear mission: to foster exchange between Brazil and the rest of the world. Nestled in a tropical garden in São Paulo, the space has since then hosted shows by the likes of Paulo Nazareth, Sonia Gomes, Lawrence Weiner, and Nina Canell. A decade later, the gallery itself has spread its wings and operates outposts in New York City and Brussels. In this new episode of Art Basel’s video series ‘Meet the Gallerists’, Felipe Dmab, Matthew Wood, and Pedro Mendes revisit their journey and discuss why, now more than ever, the art system has to be defended.
