Ahead of the launch of Art Basel's 'OVR Portals', one of its curators, Larry Ossei-Mensah, was joined by artist Gisela McDaniel, whose work will be presented at Pilar Corrias, London. The work of Detroit-based artist McDaniel disrupts and responds to historical narratives and contemporary patterns of female silence. Her portraits, interweaving oil portraiture and audio recordings, give a voice to indigenous, queer, and minoritized women and non-binary people, who are healing from forms of trauma.The panel, moderated by Jan Dalley, arts editor of the Financial Times, discussed McDaniel's practice, and how it relates to the broader themes seen throughout this edition of Art Basel's Online Viewing Rooms.Broadcast live on&nbsp;Monday, June 14, 2021.
