Ma Liuming started his art career with creating an avant-garde experimental group named “Beijing East Village” in 1990s. Since then, he and his group had introduced performance art genre where it was banned in China at that time. The artist created his other persona, ‘Fen•Liuming’ where he performed in nudity, walking through the Great Wall, or just walking through a park—creating a sensational internationally. He puts his other persona not only through performance but applied it into his paintings. The artist questions about changes made through time and from the process of rearranging the past. Past and present, man and woman, adult and child—these contrasting subjects provide certain ambiguities and ironies and create a particular atmosphere.
