The tragic figure of "the displaced", that is forced to migrate from its home region is a common thread in Beatriz González' seminal group of works "Desplazamientos forzados y paisajes elementales". Based on images of refugees of the contemporary press, motifs like the barefoot woman carrying a child on her back are repetitively processed by the artist within her paintings, drawings and serigraphies. Here captured on canvas with bold outlines and a large-surface color composition, the figures are often simplified and reproduced in print media, thus leaving its iconic traces within the memory of the beholder.
