The departure point for this series of drawings and paintings is a trip by car from Geneva to Kabul in Afghanistan in 1939 by Annemarie Schwarzenbach, a Swiss writer and Ella Maillart, a Swiss adventurer, travel writer and photographer, as well as a sportswoman; that was cut short by the outbreak of the second World War. For the works Bauer appropriates and redraws some of Schwarzenbach's photographs made during this journey.
