It is that time of the year: Art Basel's Swiss edition is around the corner! An entire week of art, events, and discovery awaits. Follow our guide to make the most of your visit.
Basel Exclusive
Developed with participating galleries in Art Basel’s main sector, Basel Exclusive is a new initiative that celebrates one of the defining experiences of the fair: discovering artworks in person, and at the moment they are brought to the market. As part of the initiative, major works will remain unseen until the VIP opening of the show on Tuesday, June 16, during the First Choice Preview hours. These works will be prominently presented within booths and clearly identified on-site as part of the initiative.
Messeplatz and Münsterplatz
The week will see the unveiling of two major new site-specific commissions by Nairy Baghramian and Ibrahim Mahama, both Gold Awardees at the inaugural Art Basel Awards. This marks the first time that new commissions by artists honored at the Awards will premiere in the city where their recognition first took place.
Nairy Baghramian presents an elaborate site-responsive installation, Modèle vivant (S’empilant) (2026), on the Messeplatz, the main square in front of the fair halls. Conceived for fountain, the work unfolds as a rhythmic assembly of four large-scale sculptural groupings that extend her distinctive artistic language, combining biomorphic forms with geometric support structures. Baghramian’s intervention subtly reconsiders the relationship between sculpture, site, self, and spectator.
Ibrahim Mahama presents The God of Small Things (2026), an ambitious sculptural and spatial installation on Münsterplatz, in the city's Old Town. Taking its title from Arundhati Roy’s novel The God of Small Things (1997), the installation incorporates rubber as a primary material, sourced from a defunct post-independence tire factory in Ghana. Through its scale and physical presence, the project not only activates the public realm but also situates Ghana’s colonial and post-independence histories within a broader global context, offering a powerful and timely intervention.
The fair
The 2026 edition of the show will host 290 world-class galleries from 43 countries and territories, presenting an exceptional range of art spanning rare 20th-century masterpieces to some of the most closely watched practices of today.
Curated for the first time by Ruba Katrib, Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs at MoMA PS1, Unlimited will feature 59 major large-scale projects by artists whose practices engage with the political, social, ecological, and spatial conditions of the present. Art Basel’s Unlimited Night will return on Thursday, June 18, from 7pm.
Parcours, Art Basel’s acclaimed public art sector, returns in 2026 under the curatorship of Stefanie Hessler, the director of Swiss Institute in New York. Dedicated to site-specific installations, sculptures, interventions, and performances situated in public spaces and historic locations in the vicinity of Art Basel, the 2026 edition will bring together 21 projects presented by 31 galleries.

Zero 10
Now in its third edition, Zero 10, Art Basel’s global initiative dedicated to art of the digital era, makes its debut at Art Basel’s flagship fair with an expanded, open format curated by award-winning artist Trevor Paglen and digital art strategist Eli Scheinman. Under the anchor theme ‘The Condition’, this is the initiative’s first co-curated edition and largest presentation to date. Twenty exhibitors will showcase a compelling selection of artists at the forefront of digital artistic practices, transforming the Event Hall at Messe Basel into a platform for artistic experimentation and exchange.
Art Basel Awards
The Art Basel Awards – presented in partnership with BOSS – return to Basel, reasserting their long-term ambition to not only recognize excellence but also to actively shape artistic production and discourse on a global scale.
The 2026 Art Basel Awards Medalists will be celebrated at an event at Basel’s historic town hall, the Rathaus. A selection of Medalists will headline a public, artist-led Conversations series on Thursday, June 18. The talks series, entitles One-ones, will offer audiences direct access to some of the most influential voices shaping contemporary culture today, including Arthur Jafa, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Mercedes Vilardell, and Precious Okoyomon.

Conversations
Art Basel’s flagship talks program, Conversations, returns to Basel across three days, bringing together leading voices from art and beyond to explore how visual art intersects with the forces shaping culture today – from music, architecture, and technology to museums, public space, and the market.
Each day will feature a special Zero 10 panel, co-curated by Trevor Paglen and Eli Scheinman, exploring how artists engage with the technologies fundamentally altering image-making, authorship, value, and contemporary life itself.
Highlights include:
- A special Artist Premiere conversation between Nairy Baghramian and Kunstmuseum Basel Director Elena Filipovic, coinciding with Baghramian’s Messeplatz project.
- Artists Aria Dean and Josh Kline, with novelist Hari Kunzru, discuss authorship, originality, and expertise in a world progressively dominated by AI, as part of Zero 10.
- DJ and producer Dixon, visual artist Jeremy Shaw, and curator and writer Nora N. Khan explore the ways contemporary culture constructs cathartic experiences and mutable belief systems across art and music.
For 2026, the Conversations program will take place in a new auditorium located in the Event Hall, providing an enhanced setting for dialogue and exchange. It remains free and open to all upon booking.
The Art Basel Shop
The Art Basel Shop offers a curated extension of the show, bringing together artist-designed products, limited editions, and exclusive collaborations that reflect the spirit and creativity of the global art world. Conceived as both a destination and a point of discovery, it invites visitors to engage with Art Basel beyond the exhibition halls.
Highlights include:
An exclusive collection of six limited-edition sunglasses, designed by Zurich-based eyewear brand VIU, reflecting the Art Basel community’s belief that seeing is a conscious act within contemporary creativity.
The FREITAG for Art Basel F262-AB JULIEN Tote Bag and F218-AB Charm explore the intersection of global art movement and circular design. Crafted from discarded truck tarps, each piece bears the unique marks of its previous life. Reflecting FREITAG’s commitment to durable, functional, and circular design since 1993, the tote bag is paired with a monogram charm, combining collectability with a distinctive expression of upcycling and craftsmanship.
